Reduce Turnaround Time, Increase Productivity and Cost-Efficiency

Applied Spectral Imaging’s (ASI's) suite of
user friendly applications follows
sophisticated algorithms and valuable
user input to automate tedious laboratory
tasks and redeem valuable human resources
for other important work.

The CytoLabView suite includes a host of
features designed to make routine tasks quicker,
simpler and more effective.

Image Description
BandView®, ASI's image acquisition and analysis solution for karyotyping, can be run as an independent karyotyping system or integrated into a network of systems. BandView can be integrated with ASI's FISH and SKY applications.

BandView can be upgraded to ASI’s fully automated metaphase finding system, MetScan. MetScan performs, unattended scans of multiple brightfield or multi-color fluorescent slides, freeing the cytogeneticist from time consuming manual work. Due to its unique classification algorithms, MetScan is adaptable to any preparation and to all sample types, detecting even the most condensed bone marrow metaphases. MetScan allows high-throughput sample analysis in both clinical and research laboratories. MetScan is designed for efficiency even in small laboratories, locating the best metaphases in samples with low mitotic index,
identifying the most highly spread metaphases, and more.

Capture & Analysis Stations

Image Description The Acquisition process was designed by ASI to be simple and effective, and requires no time-consuming adjustments to the microscope or software in order to maximize image quality. The user can identify a metaphase and simply hit the keyboard space bar to capture the image, and then quickly continue to capture subsequent metaphases or proceed to analysis.

Application features include:

  • Expansive field of view (FOV)—The FOV generated by the ASI CCD camera is much larger than a typical FOV. Nearly every metaphase fits on the CCD during a single acquisition, meaning less effort is expended on multiple acquisitions.
  • No need to fine-tune exposure—the high-performance digital CCD camera automatically performs exposure and contrast adjustments.
  • No need to fine-tune black/white levels— the camera's dynamic 12-bit range allows the capture of 4096 levels of gray. This means that even with dark / white debris in the slide, there are always sufficient levels of gray for differentiation of chromosome bands in superb detail.
  • Automatic X/Y Coordinate Readers. Automatic coordinate readers may be attached to any microscope. Once the user hits Acquire, the current coordinates are entered into the computer and saved automatically—and more accurately than after manual reading The XY Reader also facilitates manual relocation to any previously acquired cell within seconds.
  • No need to perform image threshold or enhancement during acquisition
Processes are performed automatically and/or manually during analysis. The entire image file is saved for future reference or analysis. This advanced method of image processing also allows the inclusion of faint satellites and similar structures that may have been excluded during segmentation to be simply added-back to the image.

Review/Analysis Stations

Cytogenetic workers can karyotype and analyze acquired metaphases,
and print results reports enriched with images, all at the same station.

Features include:

  • Automatic performance of many operations—
    • Background uniformity correction that compensates for uneven microscope illumination
    • Optical magnification, with modification of tools and enhancement for optimal results
    • Contrast and band enhancement
    • Segmentation (background / foreground threshold)
    • Segmentation of clustered chromosomes
    • Deletion of debris and border interfaces
    • Detection of sample type (G, Q, R-band in brightfield and fluorescence) to support multiple sample work at the same workstation.
  • Simplest and most powerful tool selections—only a single tool is required for all tasks. No need to replace tools. Single mouse button.
  • Highly accurate Classifiers, minimizing the correction steps in the Karyotype.
  • Fully dynamic design:
    • No need to define karyotype templates. The karyotype table resizes automatically to accommodate any chromosome length, amount of chromosomes per class, or annotation.
    • User-definable workspace.
  • Automatic X/Y coordinate readers—The device automatically records coordinates in the software and on worksheets, saving up to 30 minutes per day of data entry
  • Automatic creation of a case report—The ASI Case Report effectively replaces the manual metaphase count sheet. Fields including Patient Data, Cell Index, Slide Name and Number, X/Y Coordinates, and Results for each cell are automatically entered into the computer and may be printed as a Case Report.
  • Automatic counting of chromosomes—typical manual chromosome counting consumes valuable time. ASI software is the quickest semi-automatic tool for counting chromosomes, eliminating the need to recount or verify count.

Efficient Record Keeping and Data Management

Image DescriptionPhysician Reports: Predefined text is automatically populated with data from Results, Notes, and Referral Reason fields.
  • Statistics Reports: All patient and demographic data is readily available, and may be easily filtered and arranged to create bar-chart reports categorized for distribution to the referral physician, workflow data for specific technologists, for distribution according to prognosis or karyotype results, and more. This feature saves countless hours of data crunching and case recall by administrative personnel.
  • Management Station: The network may be configured with a laptop or desktop, which can view and handle all case data from a local or remote location.
  • Multi-application Reports: ASI’s database is inherently a multi-application database, covering all sample types (G-,Q-,R-karyotyping, nucleus and metaphase FISH, SKY, CGH,…). Hence, reports summarize all the analysis done for the patient, combining karyotyping, FISH and other results in the same report.
  • Immediate Chromosome Compare Report within and between case chromosomes, including the results from karyotype, metaphase FISH and SKY analysis. Comparing karyotype lines between cells with immediate correction of any chromosome from any cell.

Organization, Management & Network Administration

  • Database
    • All patient data and case results are assembled into a single database. A Compare feature allows the user to easily create reports comparing individual chromosomes.
    • Time-progression studies or cross-case comparisons (such as parent/progeny or sibling/sibling analyses).
    • Multiple types of report formats, which are available for a number of applications.
    • Ability to define additional databases with immediate switch between them from any client.
  • Network The definable and automatic multi-backup mechanism contained in CytoLabView eliminates the need for frequent manual backup or archiving by a Network administrator.
