What is G-Banding and Karyotyping?

G-banding is the treatment of chromosomes in the metaphase stage with trypsin (for partial digestion of the protein) and the staining of the chromosome with Giemsa.  Each homologous chromosome pair has a unique pattern of G-bands, enabling recognition of particular chromosomes

BandView

BandView® is ASI's fully-automated image acquisition and analysis system for Karyotyping.  It can be run either as an independent karyotyping system and upgraded  to FISHView or HiSKY. or integrated it into a CytoLabView system.  With the assistance of user input, ASI has created a user friendly and accurate karyotyping system.

G-, R-, Q- or DAPI-banding with BandView combines high-quality image processing with a complete working environment for the cytogeneticist.

Acquisition - Image Capture

The BandView capture process is quick, simple and requires minimal human intervention.  Exposure and contrast are automatically determined while XY coordinates are automatically listed, leaving the user the task of merely locating  and focusing the cell.

The 12-bit digital camera, with its large (2/3”) field of view, captures most of the sparse metaphases in a single frame with the highest quality possible in a single-second operation.

Analysis Features

  • Robust Image Analysis using smart tools active in both Metaphase and Karyotype status
  • Superb image resolution with advanced enhancement algorithms
  • Capability of comparing same-case and multi-case metaphases and/or karyotypes with chromosome comparison.
